Grooves & Gravy
Dispatches From the Front Line of Music Obsession

Grooves & Gravy is written and published by the same person behind Good Boy Records, where I make and release songs. It is a song journal built around real songwriting and real music releases, though presented through fictional editorial voices and storytelling.

Grooves & Gravy sits alongside that. This is where I write more directly, but still in the spirit of the music press I grew up with: loud, opinionated, contradictory, funny, and gloriously human. Not industry access. Just the perspective of someone who has spent a lifetime listening, making noise, and still getting excited when something unexpected comes out of the speakers.

You will find two core writing streams here.

Non-fiction is where I write memoir-style pieces, personal essays, and reflections on music, creativity, and the realities of making things over time. These are grounded in real experience, even when the tone is informal or humorous. You will also find true memoirs from my early life that connect me to music.

Fiction is where I experiment. Sometimes it is short stories. Sometimes it is narrative pieces written like journalism. Sometimes it is longer work, like the pulp-noir novella that started life simply as a writing exercise to see if I could do it, and whether I wanted to. Not everything there is music-related, and that is intentional. It is where I test range, voice, and storytelling.

Across the site, the lines between real life, music, and storytelling are sometimes deliberately blurred. The experiences are real. The music is real. The way they are told is allowed to move between straight writing, narrative, and fiction.

If you like music writing that is personal, occasionally argumentative, sometimes ridiculous, and rooted in real love for the art form, you will probably feel at home here.

Put the kettle on. Pull up a chair. The stereo is already on.
